3 Tips For Every Woman Starting A Home Based Business - MLM

Posted on 28. May, 2012 by Athar in Uncategorized

More and more women today work from home, and even more want to. Some are single moms or widows who need to earn a living. Others just want a little extra income or a sense of independence. Particularly for women, starting a home business presents a unique set of challenges. Here are the three steps to help ensure success:

1. Consider Your Options
The first obstacle in starting a business is figuring out which one?s right for you. Before making any decisions, find out what?s available to you. Almost anything you can do?whether it?s graphic design, sales and marketing, or administration?you can do from the comfort of your home. Before determining a direction, look at all factors involved:

? Your skills and interests. You?re much more likely to persevere and succeed if you enjoy what you?re doing.

? Your personality. If you?re extremely shy, hosting home parties might not be right for you ? even if you really like the product you?re selling. Many women fail because they jump into the first thing they see, and it doesn?t work with their disposition.

? Your needs. How many and what hours can you work? How much money do you have to make? How much flexibility do you need in your schedule?

Once you?ve researched your opportunities and analyzed your skill set, you can make an informed, intelligent decision about which career move is right for you.

2. Make a Conscious Effort to Develop Your Customer Base
Many women are good at what they do, but don?t know how to market themselves to reach customers. Spencer advises, ?Make a conscious decision to do something to market your business daily, or at least weekly, whether it?s a mail-out, an email campaign, or offering a special.?

Word-of-mouth referrals mean more business, so focus on doing a good job for the clients you have. Always do follow-up ? you want to stay in contact and remind people you?re there. Having a web site, an online presence, is another tool you can use to attract new customers.

3. Don?t Be a Lone Ranger ? Find a Support Network
You don?t have to feel alone or try to handle everything yourself ? there are many online communities that can provide you with support and advice. You can save hours of research just by asking someone with experience.? Whatever business you?re in, there?s a forum for it. Seek out people that have already succeeded ? find a mentor.

Maternity Leave Laws: 18 States Receive A Big Fat 'F' Grade

Maternity leave laws certainly weren?t something to be celebrated in the United States this past Mother?s Day weekend ? among many other factors that don?t accommodate the essential raising of children. While laws protecting the rights of pregnant women in the workplace would certainly be an improvement, such legislation doesn?t even come close to addressing the wealth of other needs by parents, including job-protected leave, nursing rights, and flexible use of sick leave.

The National Partnership for Women & Families released a report that analyzes all of the aforementioned including family leave, medical leave, pregnancy disability leave, reasonable break times, and small necessities leave. From there, the organization doled a grade for each state and if America was a kindergarten class, let me just say that many of us would not be promoted to the first grade.

maternity leave lawsOnly California and Connecticut are the ?A? students among us, with a total of 18 states receiving a capital ?F.? The report, entitled ?Expecting Better: A State-By-State Analysis Of Laws That Help Parents,? outlines the problem as one of archaic laws in modern times:

America?s workforce has changed, but the nation?s public policies have not kept pace. Women and mothers are a permanent fixture in the workforce ? and odds are slim that after a child?s birth its mother will stay home full time while its father works as the family?s sole breadwinner. Seventy-two percent of women work at some point before giving birth to a first child; among women who worked during pregnancy, 73 percent return to work within six months of giving birth.8 Seventy-seven percent of mothers with children under the age of six and 78 percent of mothers with elementary- to high-school-age children work outside the home.9 In fact, 71 percent of children live in households where all parents work.

The report?s authors further articulate that in the majority of households (six out of 10), women are the primary or co-breadwinners. In lower income families, a woman?s earnings are absolutely essential to her family?s ability to remain financially afloat. And yet our current policies have yet to acknowledge this fundamental shift in American families.

Acer Liquid Glow hits the FCC, keeps its secrets

Image

Acer's Liquid series phones only occasionally reach the FCC, so it's with some surprise that we've just spotted the still-fresh Liquid Glow getting the US agency's approval under its E330 model name. Details are scarce as to whether or not there's been any changes made to the Android 4.0 phone on its way out of Taiwan, however: there's no telltale signs like cellular frequencies or carrier badging. If anything, Acer is hoping to keep information hush-hush by stamping a 180-day confidentiality seal on the manual and photos. It's entirely possible that this is the international GSM model with no 3G support for North American carriers, so we wouldn't get worked up about local release plans. Even so, knowing Canadian carrier Rogers' tendency to offer Acer phones, there's still a possibility that a version of the Liquid Glow might go on sale this side of the Pacific.

Ferrari chairman reveals hybrid Enzo will come this year

We've seen both the fast, and the furious, when it comes to hybrid cars -- but we've yet to see a battery-packing Ferrari roll out of concept, and onto the forecourt. Well, according to Luca di Montezemolo -- the firm's chairman -- we'll finally be able to strike the latter off the list as soon as this year. A limited special edition Enzo was announced at the tail end of the supercar manufacturer's recent financial report. No further details at this time, but the optimistic among you might want to start getting trade-in quotes on that Prius now. Catch the full report is after the break.

April Kauffman: New Jersey Radio Host (Photos)

There may be a break for the family of April Kauffman. New Jersey radio host, and businesswoman extraordinaire, she was found shot to death in her bedroom last week. Kauffman’s claim to fame was her job as a radio personality in the New Jersey area. She was also well known as a strong advocate for military veterans. Her voice could be heard hosting a show on WOND up until earlier this year. Police believe the murder occurred sometime over night on Thursday. A friend of her’s named Donna Clementoni says she sent the slain DJ an email around 2AM the night before she was found dead. Her friend called her a “local legend,” and says they were planning an event to benefit war veterans together at the time of her death. The most amazing thing I was able to find on her is that she would spend her Thanksgiving providing a loving meal to nearly 50 recruits from the Cape May U.S. Coast Guard Training Center. I love that idea. These are recruits, not even seasoned veterans. It shows that she wants to support them from the beginning and let them know that someone is in their corner at all [...]

Renaming Al Qaeda to Tanthim al-Jihadi litahrir al-aksa wa-tawhid al-Umma?

President Obama?s advantage on national security marks the first time in decades a Democratic candidate has had such an edge. DC Decoder?s Liz Marlantes explains.

That's one of the details tucked in thousands of pages of documents that were seized in last year's Navy SEAL raid.?West Point?s Center for Combating Terrorism (CTC) released a study of 17 declassified documents today, offering a window into Mr. bin Laden?s views.

The report notes that one of ?the most compelling? stories to come out of the declassified documents is bin Laden?s struggle to rein in Al Qaeda affiliates, and keep his intended message and branding on track.

?I plan to release a statement [announcing] that we are starting a new phase to correct [the mistakes] we made; in so doing, we shall reclaim, God willing, the trust of a large segment of those who lost their trust in the Jihadis,? bin Laden wrote in 2010.

The CTC report notes that though bin Laden publicly condemned the West, focusing on the repression and injustices exacted on Muslims by countries like the US, his private correspondence reveals that he was particularly pained by domestic jihadi attacks on Muslims.

His frustration may have even led bin Laden to consider rebranding his Al Qaeda movement as a whole. One letter by an unknown author suggests a list of potential names?(see English translated document?# 0000009).?Some of the proposed options are aimed at making followers of Islam feel more included in the organization.

But pithy they are not:

*?Tanthim al-Jihadi li-tawhid al-Umma wa-inkathiha, which means Jihad Organization for Unification and Rescue of the Nation,

* Tanthim al-Jihadi litahrir al-aksa wa-tawhid al-Umma, or Jihad Organization to Liberate Al-Aqsa and Unify the Nation,

* Hizb tawhid al-Umma al-Islamiya, Islamic Nation Unification Party.

Damage control was an apparent concern for the organization that has little oversight on an operational level with affiliates and those simply inspired by Al Qaeda's work. In response to a letter from Al Shabab leadership in Somalia expressing interest in identifying themselves as an Al Qaeda affiliate, bin Laden wrote, "If asked, it would be better to say there is a relationship with al-Qaida, which is simply a brotherly Islamic connection, and nothing more," according to the United Press International.

"Rather than a source of strength, [bin Laden] was burdened by what he viewed the incompetence of the 'affiliates,' including their lack of political acumen to win public support ... and their poorly planned operations which resulted in the unnecessary deaths of thousands of Muslims," reads the CTC report. Bin Laden was apparently disappointed by affiliate group ISI/AQI's arbitrary attacks on Shi?ite civilians, and warned other affiliates not to commit the same mistakes.

Bin Laden feared the frequency of civilian deaths that often occurred as ?collateral damage? in regional attacks were causing the Muslim populace to lose sympathy with the movement ??particularly when these deaths were ?exploited by the enemy,? bin Laden wrote, presumably referring to Western media and governments. He also indicated a desire to create an Al Qaeda Central, a term pulled, ironically, from Western media, to maintain greater oversight of affiliate groups.

Documents also reveal that in light of the Arab Spring ? something bin Laden viewed positively ? he wanted to focus more attention on media and outreach. In part, he hoped to rouse those who hadn?t yet rebelled against their rulers to do so, but he also acknowledged the important role media plays, as ?a [principle] element of the battle.? He expressed an interest in creating an Al Qaeda media outlet that could inform more mainstream Muslims about jihad, and perhaps spark their interest in the movement.

Foxconn Chief Confirms The Apple iTV

fanboysIn an interview published by China Daily today, Terry Gou, chairman of Foxconn, confirms the massive manufacturing company is making preparations for an Apple television set called iTV. Gou also states that neither development nor manufacturing has begun. Apparently, per China Daily at least, the television set will have an aluminum construction, Siri voice controls and FaceTime video calling. This is the most solid report to date of the long-fabled Apple HDTV. The product has been rumored for the last several years. So far both Steve Jobs and now Tim Cook have called the Apple TV, the company's set-top box, a hobby. But it seems the company is almost ready to turn its avocation into an occupation.

Growing like gangbusters, Turkey says Western economies need 'serious reforms'

Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan warned Friday that the US and Europe were not doing enough to resolve the core causes of the global economic slowdown.

The global economy remains deep in crisis and Europe and the United States are doing little to resolve its core causes, Deputy Turkish Prime Minister Ali Babacan warned Friday.

Mr. Babacan, a former foreign minister and Turkey?s point-man for economic policy, said neither the US nor the eurozone countries have yet to deal with the underlying causes of the global economic slowdown: a weak financial sector, weak corporate balance sheets, risky public financial positions.?

Speaking at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, Babacan warned that this year will be a year of reckoning for the European Union, and he pointed to the recent collapse of the Dutch government over the budget austerity measures as a harbinger for Europe?s coming fiscal battles.?

?2012 will be test year for European countries,? he said. ?2013 will be test year for American economy. After the elections [the new administration] will find very difficult decisions on the table right away. There has to be serious fiscal adjustment and a medium term plan to deal with the deficit. So far, there is no credible plan to deal with deficit.?

Babacan said developed countries need to undertake serious structural changes including reforming social security and labor markets: ?It is absolutely necessary for serious reforms, especially in many European countries, absolutely necessary and urgent.?

Babacan is a founding member of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan?s Justice and Development Party and considered a leading member of the ?Neo-Ottomanism? movement, moving Turkey?s foreign policy away from a predominantly Western focus to integration and activism in its immediate neighborhood ??the territories of the former Ottoman Empire.

Babacan contrasted the Western economic turmoil, with Turkey?s booming economy which he said grew at 9.2 percent growth rate in 2010, and 8.5 percent in 2011.

?We entered this crisis with a strong banking system and strong public financial structure. During the crisis when many countries were asking for fiscal stimulus programs.? We followed a very different route. We did just the opposite. We announced fiscal consolidation program. And we overperformed,? he said.

He said Turkey?s economy was far more open than many European countries, which had made Turkish companies more dynamic and more competitive in global markets. And he argued that Turkish growth was more sustainable because he said it didn?t come on the back of government spending, but rather private sector growth.

In the coming years, he said, ?We will have lower growth ??though better than everywhere else in Europe ??but slower than before. Growth is high, but it?s also sustainable growth.?

?Tight fiscal policies will continue, in good days or in bad days,? he said, ?but we don?t believe in economic growth through public spending.?

Islam, democracy, and capitalism

Turkey has shown how Islam and democracy and capitalism can cooexist peacefully, Babacan said.?

?When people observe a functioning example, people are more encouraged to ask for more in their own countries,? he said. ?We have been talking with leaders: Change is coming, you can no longer have a closed regime with an open society ??satellites, social media, the Internet ??you have this kind, this kind of society moving forward and you are running this closed regime, this is not sustainable, this cannot continue.?

?We have advised these leaders to lead this change, or you will be pushed by change anyway,? he said. ?

Babacan addressed several of the long-running disputes in the region, such as the Israeli-Palestinian impasse, the status of the split island of Cyprus, and the violence in neighboring Syria. He said Turkey was strongly supportive of the six-point peace plan pushed by former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, but he said Turkey was strongly against any sort of military intervention or sending weapons to the embattled Syrian opposition forces.

He also said the Syrian opposition is coalescing into a viable alternative to the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

?We need to see visible, verifiable, and indisputable change in the country,? he said. ?The primary responsibility to end the violence will rest with the Syrian regime.?

Warm water threatens vast Anatarctic ice shelf

A new study indicates that a large ice sheet is at risk. Warm water from below is causing it to melt.

Scientists are predicting the disappearance of another vast ice shelf in Antarctica by the end of the century that will accelerate rising sea levels.

The Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf fringing the Weddell Sea on the eastern side of Antarctica has so far not seen ice loss from global warming and much of the observation of melting has focused on the western side of the continent around the Amundsen Sea. But new research from the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Germany says the 450,000-sq-km ice shelf is under threat.

"According to our calculations, this protective barrier will disintegrate by the end of this century," said Dr Harmut Hellmer, lead author of the study, published in the journal Nature this week.

The huge ice shelves that float on the seas fringing Antarctica provide a buffer against warming waters eating away at the base of the much larger glaciers behind them that sit on the land.

"Ice shelves are like corks in the bottles for the ice streams behind them," said Hellmer. "They reduce the ice flow.

"If, however, the ice shelves melt from below, they become so thin that the dragging surfaces become smaller and the ice behind them starts to move."

Hellmer and his team predict the melting of the Filchner-Ronne shelf could add up to 4.4 mm per year to rising global sea levels.

According to the latest estimates based on remote sensing data, global sea levels rose 1.5 mm a year between 2003 and 2010 due to melting glaciers and ice shelves, the scientists say. This is on top of an estimated 1.7 mm annual rise due to the expansion of the oceans as the water warms.

Costly Sea Defences

The research was funded by the European Union's ?Ice2sea' program, set up in the wake of the 2007 report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that highlighted ice-sheets as the most significant remaining uncertainty in projections of rising sea levels. Projections from the Ice2sea project will feed into the fifth IPCC report due in 2013/2014.

It will also inform plans for major capital spending on sea defenses to protect Europe's coastlines, particularly areas of economic importance like London, with its tidal barrier on the River Thames, and the port of Rotterdam. A large part of the Netherlands is below sea level and protected by an elaborate system of dykes.

Professor David Vaughan of the British Antarctic Survey, who heads the Ice2sea program, told Reuters the Alfred Wegener Institute's findings add to evidence that warming oceans are having the greatest impact on the ice sheets, as opposed to atmospheric changes or the legacy of some long-term change decades or even hundreds of years ago.

"What people need to know with a sense of urgency is what is going to happen to sea levels over the next few decades," said Vaughan. "In those terms, these results are very big news indeed."

Vaughan is cautious about precise projections of the impact on sea levels. "For me, those numbers are about what might be plausible," he said. "I think we need to do some more work with the ice sheet models to determine exactly what sea level rises we might expect, but those are plausible numbers."

All other things being equal, the polar ice sheets reach a balance where the amount of snow going in each year is broadly matched by the number of icebergs coming out, but subtle changes like those associated with global warming, can affect that balance quite rapidly.

Vaughan said there was clear evidence that the widely-reported disintegration of the Larsen A and Larsen B ice shelves in 1995 and 2002 respectively, had led to the ice sheets that fed them moving faster into the sea, some of them many times the rate seen before collapse.

The scientific focus on the melting ice in the Amundsen sea is down to the fact that this is where it is happening now, but Vaughan said although the Weddell

Sea is not seeing ice loss at the moment, the German research supports the view that it will spread to other areas.

If there is a lesson for climate scientists, it's "don't behave like the infant school football team and follow the ball," he said.

Alcatel OneTouch 995 hands-on

Alcatel OneTouch 995 hands-on

Alcatel's OneTouch 995 first graced our pages back in November, which promised pumped-up specs and a departure from the company's traditional low-end lineup. We've now managed to lay our hands upon the device, and while it sports only Gingerbread (which contradicts those Ice Cream Sandwich rumors), it's really quite nice -- especially given the low price. While the hardware is relatively unassuming, that's not a bad thing. Instead, the OneTouch 995 manages to include just enough quality components to make the handset both attractive and functional. It features a 1.4GHz CPU, along with an admirable 4.3-inch, 800 x 480 IPS LCD display and a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash. We were also pleased to see a stock Android 2.3 interface, and Alcatel's addition of a micro-HDMI port with DLNA support is most definitely welcome. The enclosure itself is quite plasticky, but it's also comfortable to hold. We're told the OneTouch 995 will arrive on the market in the near-term, and will sell in the neighborhood of $270. As an important feature for some, it'll also be available in a variety of colors. To see the company's finest handset to date, be sure to check out our gallery below.

iPod owners notified of RealNetworks-related lawsuit's class action status, given chance to cash in (updated: not Real)

iPod nano thumbs up

Remember the 2005 lawsuit over Apple's effort to keep RealNetworks' Harmony DRM off of the iPod, calling the countermeasures an abuse that locked customers into Apple's FairPlay copy protection and the iTunes Store? You're forgiven if you don't -- the complaint was filed in 2005. Even with iTunes having gone primarily DRM-free over three years ago, though, owners of iPods bought between September 12th, 2006 and March 31st, 2009 are just now getting notices that they qualify for a slice of any damages if they register and Rhapsody's former owner the class action group wins in court. Of course, there's no guarantee that RealNetworks former Rhapsody users will win and get you music money to feed your iPod, iPod classic, iPod nano or iPod touch, but unless you're planning to sue Apple yourself, there's no penalty for a legitimate claim.

Update: RealNetworks has chipped in to let us know that it's "not involved in any way" with the lawsuit, which is actually an independent complaint centered around the Rhapsody users themselves. RealNetworks hasn't embroiled itself in a legal fight with Apple to date.
